Cumberland Community Center

With a large open floor plan, high ceilings, and over 125 years of history, the Cumberland Church is ideally suited for adaptive reuse as a community center. This requires moving the structure a short distance next to the skate park where there will be adequate parking. The building will be used for both public functions, and rented for private events.

   - Social Gatherings
   - Wedding Rentals
   - Business Meetings
   - Birthday Parties
   - Club Events
   - Local non-profit events and meetings
   -And a host of other events to serve the needs of the community.


Project objectives:

Short Term
    •    Raise funds (est. $28,000) to prepare architectural drawings of proposed community center. (Completed, over $29,000 raised to date. Thank you!)
    •    Secure agreement with City of Albany to allow Cumberland building to be moved onto City owned land adjacent to Skate Park
    •    Complete plans and initiate campaign to secure needed resources for project Mission
    •    Raise Funds for moving church next to Hackleman Park (est, 100,000)

Long Term
    •    Based on completed plans and construction estimates, secure contributions of cash and services, grants other revenues to relocate, renovate, restore and open the Cumberland for community use (Estimated relocation and construction target: $750,000)
    •    Execute renovation project
    •    Establish operations and management organization to sustain the facility when completed (e.g., land trust, non-profit, or other strategy)
